The latest version of QuickTime is much heavier and more functional than the previous ones in the series. Apart from the first programs in the series which were used to view mp4, mov and 3gp files, QuickTime now supports mpeg2 (that is, Quick time is now compatible with .mpg, .mpeg, .vob, .vro, .m2v, .m2a, .m2s). It is also compatible with a variety of audio formats like AIFF, WAV, MOV, MP4 (AAC only), CAF and AAC/ADTS. QuickTime also opens images in jpeg format and other image formats.
This version of QuickTime works with the H.264 codec, which allows users to view both videos of high quality (like in HD format) and those of very low quality (like the 3gp format). In general, the video Quality in QuickTime has increased, and the program has also come to provide multi-channel sound. It can give you 24-channel sound, provided that you have an appropriate sound system. The new QuickTime has new Audio-Video controls. QuickTime also has a feature that automatically reconnects and continues the streaming video, when the connection is lost while streaming.
